Business and Economic Development

The Business and Economic Advisory Committee is chartered by Village Leadership to make strategic recommendations intended to enhance community spirit and foster a more vibrant and successful local business environment.

The Committee convened on four occasions and participated in a table event to survey the community at the February Matanza.  The discussion has focused on action items that fulfill the above Purpose Statement. This document serves as an interim report for consideration by Village Leadership. We strongly encourage the development of an action plan which addresses these recommendations. The Committee seeks feedback and support from the Trustees to continue to move this effort forward as well as continuing to develop and hone new recommendations.

Three subcommittees, Activities, Character, Branding, developed a list of 3-5 recommendations.  The recommendations are as follows:

Village Activities

  1. The Committee recommends the development of a robust Community Calendar inclusive of a broad array of events and activities and published both in print and electronically.

  2. The Committee recommends continuing the various events that are currently Village sponsored.

  3. The Committee recommends including school activities and events in our community calendar.

  4. The Committee recommends the creation of at least two regular events which are focused on the 4th Street shopping district, and which bring attention to the merchants and their local businesses.

  5. The Committee recommends the use of banners and flags along 4th Street which are celebratory and bring attention to the various seasonal activities which the Village sponsors.

Identity/Character

  1. The Committee recommends that the Village strongly consider the development of a Cultural Center to archive the history of the Village and region for its residents and visitors alike.

  2. The Committee recommends that the Center serve as a focal point of Village activities, tie into Village trails, be positioned on Village maps, and optimally be featured in Village marketing.

  3. The Committee recommends that the Center and its content relate directly or indirectly to efforts currently underway by the NPS to develop the National Historic El Camino Real Trail.

Branding

  1. The Committee recommends that effort be applied to create a Village “Brand” which can be employed for multiple utilities.

  2. The Committee recommends that the 4th Street business district be promoted using the Village brand.

  3. The Committee recommends that a professional marketing agency be engaged to develop this concept and that appropriate resources be applied to ensure its success.
